Purchasing something you saw or others have is an emotional draw. My immediate response to anyone who says that is ... Why?
I can go on and on about why you should or should not buy something. However, since I like bullets ... here are my facts, experiences, and suggestions.
Is the purchase you are considering ...
1. based on need, personal pleasure or emotion
2. get you closer to your long term savings goals
3. close or fix a known problem or need that existed for 3-6 months
4. bring you an emotional high
5. address, fix or address a problem or need you cannot address otherwise
6. reduce or delay other purchases that are actually more important or critical
7. able to addressed by repairing or modifying (for less money) what you already own
Assuming you decided to purchase, did you
1. check other's experience and overall reliability of the purchase
2. verify the least cost option (eBay, Amazon, Walmart and direct source)
3. for small purchases, don't forget to check Save a Lot, Dollar Tree, friends, etc.
4. check the return policy, warranty or use conditions
5. save the receipt and UPC (carefully unpack and save the packing contents for 30 days)
6. register the purchase
