- Goals identify what is important and point you to an end result
- But, goals alone usually fail because they tend not be daily actions
- A 'system' that identifies actions to get you closer to the goal
- Over time, a 'system' becomes a habit automatically
- Thereby, a goal supported by a 'system' increases your odds of success
Here is one of my 'goals' for 2020 .. Lose 10 pounds by Thanksgiving 2020
Normally I would list 5-6 things I plan to do to accomplish it and hope to lose 10 pounds. But in one week, I'll miss some of the things and get disappointed and give up. However, if a build a 'system' instead, the daily actions are easy and my confidence grows to get the end result.
Here is my 'system' to lose 10 pounds by Thanksgiving:
1. Start walking, 1-2-3 or more days a week, and do it with Grandma
2. Park far away from store entrances to increase my steps I walk
3. When in a large store, like Walmart, walk the entire store perimeter inside
4. Monitor or track my steps each time to see progress(there are apps)
5. Start a food diary to understand where my eating habits are bad
6. Never go back for seconds at dinner
7. Introduce intermittent fasting (increasing non-eating hours in a day)
8. Limit alcohol and replace with water
Now your turn - create a system: Goal - never lose or damage your iPhone
1. be sure you have a good protective case
2. keep the phone in one place/pocket with you
3. at home, Grandma's, friend's or school - always keep it in one place
4. develop a 'tap, tap' habit - when you leave one place for another 'tap' to make sure you have your iPhone
What other ideas can you add?
