@ Attitude ... is the anchor to get your through

Attitude ... is the anchor to get your through

What it means ...

  • Things will go wrong no matter how well you plan for them to go right
  • People will disappoint you - either on purpose or by accident
  • Life at times will: be upsetting, have the appearance of hopelessness, and feel overwhelming with no escape in sight
  • But none of these feelings have influence over you, when you - not others or things, control YOUR state of mind!

Here are some ways that you can take control and ... how you can learn to respond to negativity. Sometimes, your first reaction to something that goes against you is to yell, slam or throw something, swear out loud or even injure yourself. Then, more often than not, as we begin to calm down from that  emotional burst, the situation is not all that serious or impossible. You probably never looked at it this way, but soon you realize the situation you experienced is mostly temporary and also take a positive action - you can get back on track ... YOU ARE IN CONTROL!

Here are ideas to consider

1. Understand things can and will not always go the way you hope
2. When starting or expecting something consider what may go wrong
3. Then something does go wrong - PAUSE - don't respond, and breath slowly
4. Now calm and composed, review what happened to see is it bad or not
5. Think back on what you expected to happen and in light of the situation decide if you try again, take another path or come up with ideas to actually take advantage of the change.

Example: we invited friends over for dinner, plans made - food prepared. They called 2 hours before dinner and said a family member was taken into the hospital. "Geez, that's too bad". Options we had were - 1. eat it ourselves (too much food), 2. invite someone else over (too late), 3. split the dinner and have it for our friends when they come home to eat and we enjoy the rest ourselves. We chose #3 and it was a win for everyone.
