00 Does It Affect 'Me' ... (if maybe) let it go

What I mean is ...
  • Sometimes our views and biases get in the way of good decisions
  • At the same time, others' actions and statements can upset us and we want to 'strike back'
  • This is the time to pause and consider:
       1. is what the person is saying or doing actually impacting you or your family
       2. if so, how exactly (financially, emotionally, personally) does it impact you
       3. think hard and ask "am I upset because they are doing what I would not do?"
       4. has this person acted or expressed their position before and if so - let it go
       5. now, if what the person is doing or saying does impact you (#2 above) - it's time to take a position
    or take action
What can one do ...?
... find a time and place to discuss with the individual directly the actions or statements they have made and how it affects you
... ask them to discontinue what they are doing and offer options
... set an example and speak or act in a manner that represents the way they should act

Examples:
  • A friend cheats on a test and you know they did. It upsets you because they cheated and they will get a better grade ... let it go it but when you can let them know you saw them cheating
  • (real GP issue) My neighbor parks his car next to our driveway making it difficult to see oncoming cars when exiting the driveway ... after 2 instances where passing cars almost hit us backing out of the driveway, I shared that with the neighbor and asked that he park elsewhere - he did!
